How to Identify Whether You Have Halogen or HID Headlights
On the 2015–2020 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the factory halogen and HID headlight assemblies have a very similar exterior appearance. There is no reliable visible difference when simply looking at the front of the vehicle.
The easiest way to confirm which headlight system your Tahoe or Suburban has is to open the hood and inspect the driver-side low-beam bulb.
The driver-side low-beam dust cover is accessible from under the hood without removing the headlight assembly or other major components.
Step 1: Locate the Driver-Side Low-Beam Dust Cover
Open the hood and look at the back of the driver-side headlight housing. Locate the round low-beam dust cover on the rear of the headlight.
This cover protects the bulb and electrical components from moisture and debris.
Step 2: Remove the Dust Cover
Once you have located the low-beam dust cover, rotate it counterclockwise to remove it.
With the cover removed, you will be able to see the low-beam bulb and determine whether the vehicle is equipped with the H11 halogen system or the D3S HID system.

The factory HID system uses a D3S HID low-beam bulb.
If your headlight looks like the configuration shown above, your factory low-beam bulb is D3S HID, not H11.

H11 Halogen vs D3S HID Bulb Comparison
If you are still unsure which bulb you have, the two factory bulb types are easy to distinguish once removed or viewed closely.
The H11 halogen bulb is a conventional halogen bulb with a smaller integrated plastic base, while the D3S HID bulb has a noticeably different HID-style base and construction.
If you see an H11 halogen bulb behind the driver-side low-beam dust cover, use the H11 low-beam recommendations in this guide.
If you see a D3S HID bulb, use the D3S HID recommendations instead.
Both headlight configurations use a separate 9005/HB3 high-beam bulb.
After identifying the headlight type, reinstall the factory dust cover by positioning it on the back of the housing and rotating it clockwise until it is securely seated.

How to Install the Ballast-Bypass HID-to-LED Conversion
The ballast-bypass conversion requires wiring because the factory HID ballast is removed from the power path.
The installation video below is demonstrated on a different vehicle, but the basic ballast-bypass conversion process follows the same steps.

Plug-and-Play LED Fitment — No CANbus Decoder Required

No CANbus decoder or load resistor is required for the compatible FUZED LED H11, 9005/HB3, D3S, or front turn-signal products used on these vehicles.

LED Light Output & Headlight Beam Pattern
Brightness alone does not determine whether an LED headlight upgrade performs well. The LED light source must also work correctly with the factory headlight housing so the light is placed where it is useful.
FUZED LED headlight bulbs are designed to increase usable light output while maintaining a controlled beam pattern when installed correctly.
For H11 and 9005/HB3 LED headlight bulbs, proper bulb positioning is important. The LED chips should be positioned horizontally from side to side inside the housing.
After installation, verify that each bulb is completely seated and locked into the housing, then check the low-beam pattern and headlight aim before driving at night.
Why Correct LED Bulb Positioning Matters
The reflector or projector inside the headlight was designed around a specific light-source position. If an LED bulb is installed at the wrong angle, more lumen output does not necessarily mean more useful light on the road.
When installing compatible H11 or 9005/HB3 FUZED LED bulbs, position the LED chips horizontally at approximately the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions when viewed from the rear of the bulb.

Question. I’m looking to replace my LIGHT BAR ON MY HEADLIGHT. that little accent white line on headlight. I recently install that LED strip that goes underneath the hood but now my headlight bar lights are dull and looks awful. I hope you know what lights I’m talking about. Chevy 2017 tahoe
