Factory Halogen vs Factory LED Headlights

The 2018–2020 Ford F-150 was available with different factory headlight configurations. This guide is specifically intended for trucks equipped with replaceable factory halogen headlight bulbs.

Factory Halogen Headlights

Factory halogen-equipped trucks use:

• Low Beam: H11
• High Beam: 9005/HB3

Both positions can be upgraded with compatible FUZED LED bulbs.

Factory LED Headlights

Factory LED-equipped F-150 trucks use an integrated LED headlight assembly rather than conventional replaceable H11 and 9005 halogen bulbs.

If your truck has the factory LED headlight configuration, the H11 low-beam and 9005 high-beam recommendations in this guide do not apply.

Low Beam — H11

2018–2020 Ford F-150 trucks equipped with factory halogen headlights use an H11 low-beam bulb.

FUZED LED H11 bulbs provide a direct LED upgrade for the factory halogen bulb. When converting the low beam to LED on these trucks, additional clearance is required behind the bulb, so an extended dust cover must also be installed.

High Beam — 9005 / HB3

The factory halogen high beam uses a 9005/HB3 bulb.

The 9005 is a separate high-beam bulb from the H11 low beam, allowing the two positions to be upgraded independently.

FUZED LED Headlight Upgrade

Upgrading the factory halogen H11 low beams and 9005/HB3 high beams to compatible FUZED LED bulbs provides brighter, whiter illumination compared with the original halogen lighting.

For best performance, proper bulb installation and LED-chip orientation are important. We cover bulb positioning and beam pattern later in this guide.

Fog Light — 9140 / H10

Factory halogen fog lights on the trucks covered by this guide use a 9140/H10 bulb.

The compatible FUZED LED upgrade uses our 9145/H10 LED fog-light bulb.

2018 Front Turn Signal — 7444

The 2018 Ford F-150 uses a 7444 front turn-signal bulb.

2019–2020 Front Turn Signal — 4257

The 2019 and 2020 Ford F-150 use a 4257 front turn-signal bulb.

FUZED LED does not currently offer an LED replacement for the 4257 front turn-signal application, so the 2018 switchback recommendation should not be used for 2019 or 2020 trucks.

Extended Dust Covers Are Required for the LED Low Beam

When installing an LED bulb in the H11 low-beam position on a factory halogen-equipped 2018–2020 F-150, additional space is required behind the LED bulb.

The original factory low-beam dust cover does not provide enough clearance for the LED cooling assembly. An extended F-150 dust cover provides the additional room needed while allowing the rear of the headlight housing to remain covered.

The H11 LED bulbs and extended dust covers are sold separately, so make sure to order both when converting the factory halogen low beam to LED.

2018–2020 Ford F-150 Rear Lighting Bulb Sizes

Reverse Light — 7440

The reverse-light bulb size is 7440 on the 2018–2020 Ford F-150 applications covered by this guide.

FUZED LED does not currently offer a recommended LED upgrade for this rear brake/turn-signal application. We recommend using the correct factory-style bulb rather than installing an unverified LED replacement.

The cargo-light positions use 921/T15 bulbs.

Upgrading the cargo lights to brighter white LEDs can provide considerably more usable illumination in the truck bed at night.

LED Installation & CANbus Information

The compatible FUZED LED products listed in this guide have been tested for the 2018–2020 Ford F-150 applications covered here.

No CANbus decoder is required when using the compatible FUZED LED headlight bulbs on these trucks.

The H11 low beam does require the extended dust cover for physical clearance, but an additional CANbus decoder is not necessary.

Headlight Bulb Access

One way to access the headlight bulbs is through the inner fender-well area. Removing the necessary fasteners allows the inner fender liner to be moved enough to reach the rear of the headlight housing.

Once the H11 LED low-beam bulb is installed, make sure the extended dust cover is securely installed to protect the rear of the headlight assembly.

LED Light Output & Headlight Beam Pattern

A good LED headlight upgrade is about more than maximum lumen output. The LED light source must also be positioned correctly inside the factory headlight so the reflector or projector can direct the light where it is useful.

When installing the compatible FUZED LED H11 low-beam or 9005/HB3 high-beam bulbs, the LED chips should face horizontally from side to side.

Viewed from behind the installed bulb, the LED chips should be positioned at approximately the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions.

After installation, confirm that the bulb is fully seated and locked in place, then check the headlight beam pattern and aim before nighttime driving.
