2009–2024 Classic 4th Gen Ram 1500, 2500 & 3500 Bulb Size Guide & LED Chart

Looking for the correct 2009–2024 Classic Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500 bulb size?

You've come to the right place.

This guide covers the common factory lighting configurations found on 4th-generation Ram trucks, including projector-style and reflector-style headlights.

You'll find the correct bulb sizes for headlights, high beams, fog lights, reverse lights, brake lights, turn signals, cargo lights, interior lights and license plate lights.

We'll also show you how to identify your Ram's headlight configuration before ordering LED bulbs, along with information about LED fitment, installation, output and beam pattern.

Important: Ram trucks from 2009–2024 Classic were equipped with different headlight assemblies. The correct bulb depends on whether your truck has projector, quad reflector or dual reflector headlights. Always identify your headlight configuration before ordering.

Quick 2009–2024 Classic 4th Gen Ram Bulb Size Chart

The most important thing to understand about 2009–2024 Classic Ram lighting is that there is not one universal headlight bulb size for every truck.

Your bulb depends on the factory headlight assembly.

Ram Headlight Configuration Low Beam High Beam
Projector — 2013–2015 9012 9005
Projector — 2016-2024 Classic 9005 9005
Quad Reflector -2009-2024-Classic H11 9005
Dual Reflector -2009-2012 H13 / 9008 H13 / 9008

Don't order based on year alone. Identify your headlight style first.

How to Identify Your Ram Headlight Configuration

This guide covers all 4th Generation Ram models 2009-2018 and 2019-2024 Classic models. If you have a 2019-2024 5th Generation Ram you will need to see our > 5th Gen Ram Bulb Guide

If you're searching for a Ram 1500/2500/3500 headlight bulb size, you may find different answers online because Ram trucks were available with different headlight assemblies.

Your truck may have:

Projector Headlights

These headlights have a distinctive projector lens inside the headlight housing for the low beam bulbs. These are typically found on the following trim levels: Sport, Rebel, Laramie and Limited.

2013–2015: 9012 low beam / 9005 high beam

2016–2024 Classic: 9005 low beam / 9005 high beam

Quad Reflector Headlights 2009-2024 Classic

These headlights have a reflector lenses for the low beam bulbs. These are typically found on the following trim levels: SLT, Big Horn, Tradesman.

These headlights use separate reflector chambers rather than projector lenses.

Low beam: H11

High beam: 9005

Quick note: the high-beam application requires attention to rear clearance when upgrading to LED because of the factory dust caps.

Dual Reflector Headlights 2009-2012

These headlights have a reflector lenses but have a high/low dual functioning bulb. These are typically found on the following trim levels: ST, Express.

These use one bulb for both high and low beam.

High/Low: H13 / 9008

Quick note: When upgrading to LED bulbs you may need CANbus decoders to prevent flickering and bulb out warning.

FITMENT CHECK

Before ordering LED bulbs, verify these four things:

1. Ram year

2. Ram model

3. Headlight style

4. Existing bulb size

If your truck has aftermarket headlights, do not assume the factory bulb chart applies.

Use the bulb size specified by the manufacturer of your headlight assembly.

The goal isn't simply to install the bulb with the highest advertised lumen number.

A good LED headlight upgrade needs to provide:

  • Correct fitment
  • Correct LED emitter orientation
  • Adequate thermal management
  • Proper beam pattern
  • Housing clearance
  • Reliable electrical operation
  • Easy installation

Fuzed's current F1 products emphasize plug-and-play connections, adjustable bulb bases and vehicle-specific fitment.

LED Output & Brightness

How Bright Are Fuzed LED Headlight Bulbs?

What matters is usable light.

A headlight bulb can advertise a very high lumen number and still produce a poor beam pattern.

For a Ram LED upgrade, we want to evaluate:

Output

How much usable light reaches the road?

Beam pattern

Is the light concentrated where the factory housing is designed to put it?

Cutoff

Does the beam remain controlled?

Hotspot

Is there useful intensity in the central portion of the beam?

Foreground

Is there excessive light directly in front of the truck instead of down the road?

Ram LED Headlight Beam Pattern

Checkout the proof below that our F1 Series LED bulbs produce the same safe beam pattern and cut off line that your headlights were designed for - while increasing usable brightness.

Fuzed LED Beam Pattern Test

Factory Projector Low Beam Comparison

What we're looking for

  • Defined cutoff
  • Consistent hotspot
  • Even foreground illumination
  • Useful distance illumination
  • Minimal upward scatter
  • No excessive glare

Down the road LED output

Our F1 PLUS 2.0 has slim LED boards that are designed to produce a controlled beam pattern without excessive glare or scattering in reflector and projector housings.

Ram LED Headlight Installation

How to Install LED Headlight Bulbs on a 2009–2024 Classic Ram

For all 4th Gen Models

For all models you will need to start by removing the grill and headlight housings from the truck to access the bulbs. We will go over these steps universally first.

Step 1 — Pop Hood and Remove Dust Shield

Open the hood and remove the retaining clips on the upper dust shield that covers the top of the grill. Once they are removed you can remove the dust shield.

Step 2 — Remove Grill

Remove the four 10MM bolts on top of the grill (Note that the two outer bolts are different threads than the two center bolts)

Step 3 — Remove Headlight Bolts

Now you can access the headlight mounting bolts - there are two 10MM bolts per headlights. One located at the top portion and one located at the bottom portion behind the grill mounting are.

Step 4 — Unlock Headlight Housing

Located the access door in the inner fender well area in front of the wheel. You will remove the retaining clip to open the access door - once it is open you can reach to the back of the headlight assembly and push the headlight locking clip upwards to release it from the truck.

Step 5 — Gently Pull Headlight Out

Now you will be able to pull the headlight assembly out of the truck and access the back of the headlight housing.

Step 6 — Access the bulbs

Factory Projector headlights

You will remove the five 8MM bolts that hold the dust cover on the back of the housing to access the high and low beam bulbs.

Quad Reflector Headlights

You will have two separate rubber dust covers - one for the low beam and one for the high beam. You will simply pull them off to access the high and low beam bulbs.

Dual Reflector Headlights

Once you have the headlight assembly removed from the truck you will be able to access the bulb - there are no dust covers on the back of these housings.

Installation Video

Note: In this video we use a mini series bulb that has since been discontinued. We now offer our F1 Series and F1 Plus Series Kits for the Ram trucks with Projector headlights.

Ram LED Headlight Fitment & Clearance

⚠️ FITMENT & CLEARANCE

Ram headlight housings have different amounts of space behind the bulb.

Quad-reflector high beams: Check dust-cap clearance before choosing a 9005 LED. We have a specific 9005 F1 Mini bulb for this applications > F1 Mini 9005 LED Set

Projector headlights: Our F1 Series fit great in the projector headlight housings, other brands may have clearance issues. > F1 Series LED bulbs

Dual-reflector headlights: No Clearance issues for the dual reflector headlights.

Never force an LED bulb into a headlight housing.

Ram LED Headlight Flickering & CANBUS Issues

When upgrading to LED headlight bulbs in the 4th Gen Ram you will need to install CANbus decoders to prevent flickering or light out warning. All of our Ram specific LED kits include the required CANbus decoders.

How to install CANbus Decoders

You simply connect the CANbus decoder to the trucks factory harness and then connect the LED bulb to the CANbus decoder. Once you have it connected you can tuck the decoder into the headlight assembly before reinstalling the dust covers.

Can I put LED bulbs in my Ram?

Yes, if your headlight uses replaceable halogen bulbs and you select an LED bulb designed for the correct application.

The bulb must also have sufficient clearance and the correct electrical compatibility.

We have specific LED kits for your ram truck

Ram Projector LED Upgrades

Ram Reflector LED Upgrades

Why are my Ram LED headlights flickering?

Flickering can be caused by the vehicle's electrical monitoring system, DRL operation, bulb compatibility or insufficient CANBUS/load compatibility.

A CANBUS decoder may be required for some Ram applications depending on the LED bulbs wattage.

Tip: Search your ram on your Ram in our vehicle finder to see your specific LED kit

Which Ram LED headlight is the brightest?

Don't choose an LED bulb based solely on its advertised lumen number.

Look for usable road illumination, beam pattern, proper fitment, thermal management and correct LED emitter positioning.

Fuzed's current F1 PLUS 2.0 is advertised at 12,000 true lumens per set, but the more important comparison is how that output performs in the actual Ram headlight housing.

Will LED headlights fit under my Ram's factory dust caps?

It depends on the size of the heat sink/fan on the LED bulb you are using.

The quad-reflector 9005 high beam has particularly limited clearance, which is why we offer a compact LED solution for that application. The low beam in the quad reflector has plenty of room for our regular F1 Series.

The clearance behind the dust cover on the projector headlights is also limited but we have tested our F1 series in them heavily with no clearance issues.

I own a 2017 ram 1500 laramie longhorn edition. It has the standard light bulb in it. Lights are not that bright and yellowish color. Can I put a bright cool white in and the fog lights so they would match. If so what are the recommendations on lumens?
