2016–2023 Tacoma Factory Halogen vs. Factory LED Headlights
Before ordering LED headlight bulbs, determine which factory headlight assembly is installed on your Tacoma. This is especially important for 2020–2023 trucks because Toyota offered a factory LED headlight configuration in addition to halogen-equipped models.
2016–2019 Tacoma Factory Halogen Headlights
The 2016–2019 Tacoma factory halogen headlight configuration uses conventional replaceable bulbs:
Low Beam: H11
High Beam: H9
These trucks are excellent candidates for compatible FUZED LED headlight upgrades.
2020–2023 Tacoma Headlight Configurations
For 2020–2023, Tacoma owners may encounter either a replaceable-bulb halogen configuration or a factory full-LED headlight assembly, depending on how the truck was equipped.
If your Tacoma has factory halogen headlights, use the H11 low-beam and H9 high-beam information in this guide.
If your Tacoma has the factory LED headlight assembly, the lighting system is integrated into the assembly. There are no conventional H11 or H9 headlight bulbs to replace.
For a 2020–2023 Tacoma, verify whether the truck has factory halogen or factory LED headlights before ordering replacement headlight bulbs.
H11 Low Beam LED Headlight Upgrade
Factory halogen-equipped 2016–2023 Toyota Tacomas use an H11 low-beam bulb.
The Tacoma provides an unusually generous amount of working room behind the headlight bulbs. There is no conventional factory dust cover behind the bulb, leaving plenty of space for the cooling fan on compatible FUZED LED headlight bulbs.

Can You Install LED Front Turn Signal & DRL Bulbs in a 2016–2023 Tacoma?
We do not recommend replacing the Tacoma's factory front turn signal/DRL bulb with our LED switchback bulb.
This is an important Tacoma-specific electrical and thermal consideration that is easy to overlook if you're only looking at a generic bulb-size chart.
The Tacoma uses the front bulb for multiple lighting functions:
Parking Light
Turn Signal
Daytime Running Light (DRL)
When the headlight switch is set to AUTO and the Tacoma enters DRL mode, the truck continuously powers the hotter/brighter filament circuit that would normally provide the bright amber turn-signal function.
When an LED switchback bulb is installed, this can cause the higher-output portion of the LED bulb to remain powered continuously while the vehicle is being driven in DRL mode.
We have personally tested this setup on a customer's Tacoma. During that testing, the continuous high-output operation created enough heat that we do not consider our switchback LED bulb a safe recommended replacement for this particular application.
Although the LED switchback could potentially be operated by manually keeping the headlights switched ON while driving, that depends on the driver remembering to change the headlight setting every time the truck is used.
We do not consider that a practical or appropriate customer solution, so we do not recommend our LED switchback bulbs for the front turn signal/DRL position on these Tacomas.
This recommendation comes from our own vehicle testing rather than simply matching an LED bulb to the factory socket size.
7443 LED Rear Brake & Turn Signal Upgrade
The Tacoma's rear brake and turn signal position is a very different application from the front DRL/turn signal bulb.
Compatible FUZED LED 7443/7444 red brake and turn signal bulbs work very well in these Tacomas and have been tested without hyperflashing issues.
This allows you to upgrade the rear brake and turn signal lighting to LED without the DRL heat concern associated with the front multi-function bulb.

921/T15 LED Reverse Light Upgrade
The 2016–2023 Tacoma's reverse lights are an excellent place for a high-output LED upgrade. The factory reverse-light application uses the 921/T15/W16W bulb family.
Our FUZED 2100-lumen 921 LED reverse-light kit works extremely well in this application, producing substantially brighter white light behind the truck when backing up at night.
The additional rear-facing output can help improve visibility through the mirrors and backup camera when reversing in dark driveways, parking areas, trails or other poorly illuminated locations.

Tacoma Cargo Light & Third Brake Light
The cargo light and third brake light on the Tacoma configurations covered here are factory LED.
There is no conventional replaceable bulb to upgrade in these positions.
This is another reason we recommend checking the actual factory lighting configuration rather than ordering exclusively from a generic bulb-size chart.
How to Install LED Headlight Bulbs in a 2016–2023 Toyota Tacoma
Installing LED headlight bulbs in a factory halogen-equipped 2016–2023 Tacoma is relatively straightforward. Toyota left a large amount of working room behind the headlight assemblies, and there are no conventional rear headlight dust covers to remove or modify.
This also leaves plenty of open space around the cooling fans on compatible FUZED LED bulbs after installation.
Driver-Side Low & High Beam Installation
Start by opening the hood.
On the driver side, both the H11 low-beam and H9 high-beam bulbs can be accessed from behind the headlight assembly without removing any additional components.
Reach behind the appropriate headlight position and disconnect the factory electrical connector from the halogen bulb.
Remove the original bulb from the housing, install the compatible FUZED LED bulb into the factory bulb opening and make sure it is fully seated and locked into position.
Reconnect the electrical connector and make sure the wiring is positioned so that it cannot contact the cooling fan or other moving/hot components.
Passenger-Side Low & High Beam Installation
The passenger-side bulbs can also be reached from under the hood, but the windshield washer fluid reservoir reduces the amount of working room.
It is possible to replace the bulbs without moving the reservoir, but temporarily moving it makes the installation considerably easier.
The washer fluid reservoir is held in place by two 10mm bolts.
Remove the two 10mm bolts and carefully lift the washer fluid reservoir upward and move it out of the immediate working area.
You do not need to disconnect the washer fluid hoses or drain the system.
With the reservoir moved aside, you'll have much easier access to the passenger-side H11 low-beam and H9 high-beam bulbs.
Replace the factory halogen bulbs with the compatible FUZED LED bulbs, reconnect the electrical connectors and verify that the bulbs are properly seated.
When finished, move the washer fluid reservoir back into its original position and reinstall the two 10mm retaining bolts.
There is no need to disconnect the washer fluid reservoir hoses. Remove the two 10mm retaining bolts and carefully reposition the reservoir while you work. Make sure the washer fluid hoses are not stretched, kinked or damaged while the reservoir is moved.
How to Access the Tacoma Fog Light Bulbs
The factory fog lights are also surprisingly easy to access.
With the hood open, you can reach down underneath the headlight area to access the rear of both fog-light assemblies.
There is normally no need to remove the front bumper, grille or other major components to replace the fog-light bulbs.
Reach the rear of the fog-light assembly, disconnect the factory electrical connector and remove the original bulb.
Install the compatible FUZED LED H11/H16-family fog-light bulb, reconnect the electrical connector and verify that the bulb is fully seated.

No Dust-Cover or CANbus Modifications Required
One major advantage of the Tacoma's factory halogen headlight design is the amount of space available behind the bulbs.
There are no conventional factory dust covers restricting the rear of the H11 and H9 bulbs, and there is an enormous amount of clearance around compatible FUZED LED cooling fans.
This means there is no need for an extended dust cover or similar clearance modification.
You also do not need an additional CANbus decoder with the compatible FUZED LED headlight bulbs covered in this guide.
Once installation is complete, turn on the headlights and verify that the low beams and high beams operate correctly. Then inspect the resulting beam pattern and headlight aim before driving at night.

The passenger-side bulbs are also accessible, but moving the coolant reservoir makes the job easier. The reservoir is held in place by two 10mm bolts and can be carefully lifted and moved aside without disconnecting the coolant hoses.
Do I have to remove the bumper to change Tacoma fog light bulbs?
No. The compatible factory fog-light bulbs can be accessed by reaching down underneath the headlight area from under the hood. There is normally no need to remove the front bumper or grille.
Can I put LED bulbs in the Tacoma front turn signals and DRLs?
We do not recommend our LED switchback bulbs for the front turn signal/DRL position.
The Tacoma uses this bulb as the parking light, turn signal and daytime running light. During DRL operation, the brighter circuit can remain powered continuously. Based on our own vehicle testing, this can create excessive heat with the LED switchback configuration, so we recommend retaining the factory front bulb.
Will LED rear turn signals hyperflash in the Tacoma?

I have a 2023 SR5 Tacoma, can I swap the oem bulbs out with led fog light and high beam bulbs

Hey Zack! The daytime running light bulb size is 7443 amber. We don’t have it listed due to not having a bulb that will work properly with the tacomas wiring set up. They run the brighter filament as the DRL function. That causes our bulbs and most others to over heat when using the DRL function. This is just specifically with toyota tacomas though.
